Penguins 3, Hurricanes 0
This was probably the best game that the Pens have played all year long. The work ethic was there, they were beat the Canes to the pucks all night, they got a much needed Power Play goal, and they did not allow a Power Play goal. When the Canes did end up getting a Power Play or a scoring chance, Fleury was up to the task by just being in the right position. Fleury didn't have to make any great saves like Ward was have to do all night long. Fleury was just really consistent all game which is about the best compliment you can give a goalie and he was rewarded with his 2nd shutout of the year and his first multi-shutout season of his career.
Crosby started off the scoring when he took a pass from Recchi and raced down the wing and while looking off the defender put the puck 5 hole on Ward. The Pens didn't realized it at the time but it was a good shot because Ward stopped numerous Penguins changes for the next period and a half. Recchi was robbed 2 or 3 times and Malkin was robbed from point blank range. Tablot and Ouellet were both stoned on breakaway also.
The game was then put away by Whitney on a carryover Power Play from the second when he was sneaking in back door and redirected a Recchi pass with his feet and behind Ward. Crosby then finished off his 3 point night when his pass to Recchi was deflected back to him and he beat Ward, who was sliding over to cover Recchi.
If this young team has finally figured out what it takes to beat these good teams maybe just maybe they are on their way to something bigger, but we have said that before.
Next up are the mighty Sabers on Friday...
